Prof. Mahees is a distinguished academic with a rich and diverse educational background, specializing in Sociology, Environmental Sociology, Water Resource Management, and Counseling. He began his academic journey by earning a BA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Peradeniya 1999. This foundation in sociology paved the way for further specialization in environmental issues, leading him to pursue an MA Research Degree in Environmental Sociology from the University of Colombo in 2007. Driven by a passion for understanding and solving complex environmental challenges, Prof. Mahees pursued a PhD in Water Resource Management, which he completed in 2011 at the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. His doctoral research was affiliated with the Crossing Boundaries project of the Netherlands, indicating his active involvement in international research collaborations and cutting-edge studies in water resource management. Further broadening his expertise, Prof. Mahees earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Counseling from the University of Colombo in 2017. This qualification highlights his commitment to understanding the human aspects of environmental and social issues, integrating psychological and sociological perspectives in his work. He is also affiliated with the University of Colombo, where he contributes to the community through teaching, research, and mentorship.
