A national-level programme was also implemented in 2025 in collaboration with the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board. As part of this initiative, a panel discussion was organized under the theme: “Transforming Masculinities for Prevention: Community and School-Based Approaches to Reduce Alcohol and Drug Harm in Sri Lanka.” The discussion featured participation from community leaders and a school teacher from Monaragala District, bringing grassroots voices to a national platform. The panel discussion focused on three key areas: the role of community leaders in alcohol and drug prevention, the use of the FISD school journal programme to transform harmful gender norms among young people, and the contribution of the “Caring Father” programme in redefining masculine caregiving roles. Each of these areas represented a strategic entry point for addressing the link between rigid masculinities and substance use. The event was successfully conducted and received positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the practical, ground-level perspectives shared by the community leaders and the teacher. A significant achievement of this initiative was the enhanced visibility of the organization, which provided a valuable opportunity to showcase its community-based work to a national audience and key stakeholders in the alcohol and drug prevention sector.
